With Glowing Hearts is the Official Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic commemorative book, featuring 1,600 photographs and artifacts over 400 pages. Similar to the Torch Relay book, the concept was to not only show the main event, but also focus a lens on what was happening around Vancouver from spontaneous street hockey games to portraits of elaborately dressed super fans.
My first task was to edit all of the images coming through the press such as Getty Images, Getty Sport, AFP, Sports Illustrated, Bongarts and the Canadian Press, while also sorting and pulling from our own eight hired photographers. I estimated that I looked through 100,000 photographs over this four week period. After this task was complete, I took on a more substantial role in the design of the book producing over 100 pages.
Initially Five designers were assigned to various chapters in the book: Teena Aujla, Chloe Douglas, Ben Hulse, Margaret Ko and myself. Shortly after the games ended, our team had to downsize (due to the organizing committee disbanding) and Teena, Ben and myself completed the project with production design by Yumi White.
